Copa del Rey: Barcelona – Real Madrid (25/01/2012)

Time for the second game of Copa del Rey quaterfinal between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. After winning 2:1 at Santiago Bernabeu Catalans are hot favorites to progress to the next round but with Gran Derbi you can’t be sure about the result.

Both teams easily won their weekends game in Primera Division. This means that Real still has 5 points advantage over their closest rivals. And for Jose Mourinho winning La Liga is priority. However it looks that not all is going so great for big Jose in Madrid. The rumor says that he is fed up with all the stars at Madrid and is missing UK football. With all that it’s quite likely he will quit Real after this season. And a great way to quit would be after winning the league.

With this all it’s not really likely that Real will fight to dead to get a win at Camp Nou.

Wouldn’t bet on this game but Ladbrokes is offering a money back if Cristiano Ronaldo scores at any time. Worth taking a bet on Messi to score at any time with 3.50 odds.

Carling Cup: Liverpool – Manchester City (25/01/2012)

It’s time to come back to Carling Cup semi finals with an exciting game between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield Road.

The Reds have won the first one in Manchester after Steven Gerrard’s penalty goal. However they are still far away from getting into the final as Citizens are surely on form and a league win over Tottenham at the weekend has just made their morale better.

Liverpool can’t be that happy with their weekend result as the surprisingly lost to Bolton 1:3. This loss means that The Reds are now on 7th position in the table and winning in Cup might be their only way to Europe for next season. City doesn’t have such problems. They’re leading the table and even if they don’t win the league they can be quite sure of their Champions League qualification.

With this in mind Liverpool has more to play for. No major injury concerns in both teams. Liverpool will have to play without Suarez, who is still banned and Citizens won’t be able to use Toure brothers, who traveled to African Cup of Nations.

Primera Division: Real Madrid – Athletic (22/01/2012)

Real Madrid has again failed to beat FC Barcelona in the El Classico. What is more Jose Mourinho stars have lost again at their own stadium and they are surely not favorites to qualify to next stage of Copa del Rey with the second game played in Camp Nou.

Before Real can again face Barca they will need to play their league game against Athletic. I could be a bit afraid that a game between two Gran Derbi clashes will not get a 100% focus from Galacticos but it all looks that Mourinho and especially his players know that league is their priority and even with losses against Barca they can get enough points to win title.

Injury news:
Athletic: Gabilondo, Ocio, Gurpegui, Castillo – out
Real: Khedira out, Di Maria – not likely to play

Premier League: Bolton – Liverpool (21/01/2012)

Quite interesting fixture at Reebok Stadium in Bolton. A win for home team against such good rivals could potentially mean a big turnaround in their Premier League campaign this season. And it’s not going any good for the moment. Bolton is one of the worst teams in the league with only 16 points out of 21 games. While a win against the Reds could lift them to 16th position but a loss might as well mean a drop to the last one. And looking at the potential of those teams this second scenario looks more likely.

Liverpool will play without banned Suarez and injured Spearing and Lucas. Bolton will have to do without Mears, Holden and Lee Chung-Yong.

Premier League: Norwich – Chelsea (21/01/2012)

Time to look into the next Premier League round. It will all begin with a Norwich City – Chelsea London game. Both teams are on a run of two league wins. Norwich won against West Brom and QPR, while Chelsea beaten Sunderland and Wolves.

Chelsea will play without Obi Mikel and Ivanovic and Norwich will have to do without Vaughan and Ward.

In recent interviews John Terry made it clear that he is still hoping to win the league this season. “I won’t ever give up. I am sure my team-mates and the management are the same,” Terry insisted to TalkSPORT. While the other news from Stamford Bridge are claiming that Drogba is close to exit in order to make some more space for Fernando Torres

Odds are still decent – around 1.60 for Chelsea win, but the tendency is dropping and some bookies are already at 1.50. Might be a good idea to place your bets fast as the Blues win should be on the schedule for this weekend.

Copa del Rey: Real Madrid – FC Barcelona (18/01/2012)

So the time has come for another Gran Derbi this year. Actually with the Copa del Rey quarterfinals we will see 2 of those with first one played at Santiago Bernabeu on 18/01/2012 with the rematch at Camp Nou on 25/01/2012.

It’s always hard to predict the winner of this clash of titans, but with the home advantage Real is small favorite of this first leg. Their last game ended with a 1:3 loss so they should be even more motivated to get something better. Still Mourinho can make some unpredictable surprises to shock Barca as their Primera Division campaign is priority. Mourinho already won Copa del Rey last year and he is surely focusing on league now. With this he can even play his second choice team just to make some impact on Barca morale.

With all this in mind and a second leg coming I’m not counting on many goals here.

Primera Division: Valencia – Real Sociedad (14/01/2012)

Valencia is doing quite well in Primera Division keeping their place just behind the leading giants Real and Barcelona. However their recent games weren’t that great with a loss against Sevilla in Copa del Rey and a draw in La Liga against Villarreal.

Sociedad also lost their Copa game against Mallorca with a pretty bad 1:6 beating. And also got a draw in their last Primera Division game against Osasuna.

So both teams are in same run of results but it all looks that Valencia will be the one that will enjoy a win this evening.

Primera Divsion: Mallorca – Real Madrid (14/01/2012)

We all still remember last Grand Derbi in which Barcelona has beaten Real Madrid 3:1 at Santiago Bernabeu. We all are waiting for the next one that will come very soon in Copa del Rey. But for now let’s on La Liga and coming Mallorca game.

Mallorca doesn’t really look to be a team that could stop Galacticos. With only 19 points from 17 games the host team is 14th in La Liga table and it doesn’t look likely this situation can be improved against Real.

Mallorca did play very well in their last cup game when they smashed Real Sociedad 6:1. But their Primera Division performance is not that impressive.  They’ve draw their last game against Levante and lost 0:2 against Sociedad just 2 weeks before this heavy 6:1 beating in cup. One could assume it all means a growing form but it would be just too optimistic assumption.

Real since loosing against Barca won their all games winning twice in Copa against Ponferradina and Malaga and in La Liga against Sevilla and Granada.

Premier League Round 21 Preview

This weekend’s fixture list is not really bringing us any top class matches in English Premier League, but still there will be a few interesting games which can be really important in championship race.

After a few pretty disappointing results in both Premier League and domestic cups Manchester City will play a late Monday game this week against Wigan. This gives Citizens a small advantage over their closest rivals as both Man United and Tottenham will play on Saturday. However they will both play at home against some pretty bad teams – Bolton and Wolves.

Premier League: Chelsea – Sunderland (14/01/2012)

Chelsea is surely not performing as mr Roman Abramovich would expect. The Blues are currently on 4th position in league table already 11 points behind Manchester City. It all makes it very difficult to dream about winning the league. But to keep dreaming Chelsea has to win against Sunderland.

Chelsea won their last Premier League game against Wolves, but the 3 points didn’t come easy. The Blues were leading after Ramires goal early in second half, but on 85th minute Ward made it 1:1 and a lucky strike from Lampard in 89th minute gave the win. Chelsea has to do better against Sunderland.

The quests are in quite good shape. They’ve won their last 2 league games against Wigan and Manchester City. Especially win over Citizens shows that this team can be dangerous for any opponent.

Still Chelsea is favorite here and should do well at their own stadium.
